The Resource Page

One of the primary objectives of the Kenya Mission Network is to share information and resources between PCUSA congregations engaged in mission outreach and partnerships in Kenya. Located on this page are a variety of resources submitted by members of the Kenya Mission Network.

Sharing Information

The worldwide web is an amazing thing. It provides us with an opportunity to share information, not only with a select few, but with anyone who wants it. One of the challenges that we face is trying to determine what information to share and what to keep to ourselves. The Kenya Mission Network was developed, in part, to serve as a way of sharing information between congregations that have partnerships with missionaries or congregations in Kenya. I encourage you to take a look at the information that you have compiled during the months or years that you've been working in Kenya, and consider sharing that information with others. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Don'ts:
1. Don't post personal information (to include personal phone numbers or addresses)
2. Don't post specific information about travels beforehand (names, dates, specific locations)
3. Don't post information that is unique to your work only

Do's:
1. Do send us information about your recent trip. Send a short summary of where you were and what your did. Photos are a plus.
2. Do post general information about planning trips and international travel (where to stay, trustworthy drivers, etc.)
3. Do send information that might help others in similar situations (sample letters of agreement)
4. Do send us a brief itinerary of upcoming trips. (dates, general area, contact number (church office))
5. If in doubt, contact us and we'll help you decide if it should be posted or not. When in doubt, we'll err on the side of caution and withhold it until any concerns are addressed.

This web site is your forum. The more you add to it, the better it will be. E-mail any questions or information to the webmaster at webmaster@kenyanetwork.org.

Using Cell Phones in Kenya Cellular phone service in Kenya is available through two primary providers; Safaricom and Celtel. Both companies provide service in most metropolitan areas. See their websites for specific coverage information. To use their networks, you must have an unlocked GSM cell phone and a SIM card for the network you choose. SIM cards are readily available in stores and kiosks throughout Kenya. For more information on international cell phone use, see the articles on The Travel Insider website.

Members of the Kenya Mission Network -- If you are planning a trip to Kenya and would like to borrow a "mobile" (cell phone) for your trip, contact our webmaster for details on a loaner program.

The Kenya Mission Network Council The Kenya Mission Network is a success due in large part to the efforts of a small group of individuals. These people voluntarily serve as members of the Network Council.

Registering with the U.S. Embassy The U.S. State Dept. is encouraging all international travellers to register with the State Dept. prior to the start of their travels. According to the State Dept. website, this "makes your presence and whereabouts known, in case it is necessary for a consular office to contact you in an emergency." You can register online at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs
